The Georgia Ports Authority remains under normal operation and anticipates no closures related to Tropical Storm Nicole.
For the Port of Savannah, the storm is expected to be a wind and rain event with no significant interruptions to terminal operations.
As a precautionary move, GPA is managing its empty container yards to help prevent any containers from being blown over in the event of excessive wind gusts.
GPA and the Savannah River pilots are monitoring offshore conditions to ensure safe boarding for pilots, and safe transit for vessels offshore – particularly the larger ships.
Most vessels that were waiting at anchor to enter the Savannah Harbor have moved farther into the Atlantic Ocean to avoid the storm.
The situation remains fluid, and GPA will make necessary adjustments as weather conditions necessitate.
