PUBLIC NOTICES
Public Input Requested
Container Berth 1 Improvements
Georgia Ports Authority
Garden City Terminal
The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) invites your comments on a project to streamline operations and improve the safety and efficiency of the Garden City Terminal Container Berth 1 (or CB1). The purpose of this announcement is to present the proposed improvements, and ask for your comments, questions and concerns. Note that no formal public meeting is proposed, but comments and questions provided in writing during the public comment period will be taken into consideration as the project continues.
Project Description
The project is located at the southernmost end of the GCT wharf and will straighten an existing bend in the wharf alignment. This will allow larger ships to utilize this berth, allow ships to safely pass moored vessels, and maximize the utility of the existing terminal layout.
Why is the project needed?
Newer, larger, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly ships are the trend in ocean-going commerce. For the GCT at Savannah to continue to serve and compete on a national scale, optimizing the terminal and existing berths for these larger ships is critical to success. The realigned wharf and improved container cranes will meet that need and pay dividends into the future for Savannah and the nation.
