I-16 Bridge Closure – Treutlen County

The Georgia Department of Transportation will open one westbound lane on Interstate 16 by 5 p.m. today, July 16. GDOT anticipates opening an eastbound lane on Saturday, July 17.
 
DETOURS
A signed detour is in place, but motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route, if possible, given the anticipated traffic volumes.
 
Westbound Detour
Take Exit 78- Turn Right onto Highway 221 North, Left onto US 80 West, go through town of Adrian, Left onto State Route 15, Re-Enter I-16 at Exit 71
 
Eastbound Detour
Take Exit 71 – Turn Right onto Highway 15, through Soperton, Left onto State Route 46, Left onto State Route 56, Re-Enter I-16 at Exit 78
 
Motorists are urged to remain patient during this closure. Crews are working to repair and fully reopen the roadway as soon as possible to minimize impact to the traveling public.  
 
Georgia Ports will issue updates as more information becomes available.

I-16 Shut Down Due to Major Accident In Treutlen County

​I-16 is closed from Exit 71 to Exit 78 in Treutlen County. All Eastbound and Westbound lanes are blocked. Emergency responders are on the scene.

Westbound Detour

Take Exit 78- Turn Right onto Highway 221 North, Left onto US 80 West, go through the town of Adrian, Left onto State Route 15, Re-Enter I-16 at Exit 71

Eastbound Detour

Take Exit 71 – Turn Right onto Highway 15, through Soperton, Left onto State Route 46, Left onto State Route 56, Re-Enter I-16 at Exit 78

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use an alternate route.

Please be advised a truck accident in Treutlen County has closed a bridge on I-16, shutting down traffic in both directions.
 
The Georgia Department of Transportation is rerouting traffic through Soperton and Adrian.
 
The Georgia Ports Authority encourages drivers to prepare for rerouted traffic and to avoid the area if possible.
 
Georgia Ports will issue updates as more information becomes available.
