First containerized cargo crosses GPA docks

Late in 1965 a new form of cargo passed across the docks at GCT. U.S.  Lines and Holland-America Line were the first to introduce the “Age of Containerization” to Savannah. The GPA began running advertisements announcing their ability to handle containers up to 30 tons in weight based upon the 35-ton capacity of the cranes located at Garden City Terminal.
