In 1945, the state created a three-member team, the Georgia Ports Authority, to oversee the development of its rich maritime resources.  Charged with developing Georgia’s deepwater ports and river barge terminals while fostering international trade, this team has grown to 13 today, which continue to oversee this important state resource.
