Dredge Chatry 1
The dredge Chatry works to deepen the Savannah River. Work on the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project is complete from the mouth of the river out to the end of Savannah's shipping channel, 20 miles into the Atlantic Ocean. The final portion of the project, deepening the inner harbor, is slated for completion in late 2021. (Georgia Ports Authority)
03 New STS cranes
The Port of Savannah received three Neo-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes on March 10, 2020, bringing its total to 36, more than any other single terminal in North America.
06 First 9 mega rail tracks
The first nine working tracks of the Mason Mega Rail Terminal were commissioned in June 2020.
08 Hwy 25 overpass
A new S.R. 25 overpass opened to traffic on Aug. 12, 2020. The overpass routes vehicular traffic over new intermodal rail track that was installed later, linking Garden City Terminal's two rail yards to form the Mason Mega Rail Terminal.
09 CMA CGM Brazil 1
The CMA CGM Brazil docks at Garden City Terminal on Sept. 28, 2020. The Brazil is the largest vessel ever to call the U.S. East Coast. The Port of Savannah, with 1,345 acres and 34 ship-to-shore cranes, is uniquely equipped to handle the influx of export and import cargo related to vessels in the 15,000-TEU class. 11 All-time record
November 2020 was the Port of Savannah’s busiest month on record, at 464,804 twenty-foot equivalent container units – outperforming the previous record set just one month earlier. (Georgia Ports Authority/Emily Goldman)
