Five new electric rubber tired gantry cranes arrived August 8 at the Port of Savannah. This delivery brings the current number of RTGs on Garden City Terminal to 146, more than any other terminal in the country.
The newest RTGs to the fleet will be operational within two weeks. They were delivered fully assembled from Poland and include the 1,000th RTG made by KONECRANES.
These will complement the current fleet of 22 ship-to-shore cranes, which includes 16 neopanamax and six post panamax cranes. GPA already has more ship-to-shore cranes than any other single terminal in the U.S. and will receive another four this year. The ship-to-shore crane fleet will grow to 30 by 2018.
The eRTGs received today continue GPA’s transition from diesel- to cleaner, electric-powered container handling equipment. ERTGs use up to 95% less diesel per crane providing cost and emissions savings.
