Shipping company Wallenius Wilhelmsen recently revealed its plans for a wind-powered vessel to transport roll-on/roll-off cargo.
The Orcelle Wind design aims to achieve up to 90 percent reduced emissions as compared to current fuel-efficient vessels.
“It will take the dedicated collaboration of our world-class customers, partners and employees to make such a bold initiative as Orcelle Wind succeed,” said Craig Jasienski, CEO of Wallenius Wilhelmsen. “More than just evaluating the concept, we are committed to making this a success.”
Once complete, the Orcelle Wind will have the capacity to transport 7,000 vehicles. Plans are in place to contract a shipyard by mid-2022 with a target completion date of 2025.
